nature photography of mother and children
I love it when the OKLAHOMA wind and sunshine actually cooperates. This photo session was taken in between thunderstorms, tornadoes, and flooding!!! Oklahoma needs a break as we have 7+ more days of rain in the forecast. So your prayers would be much appreciated. I shot these photos with my Nikon D750 and the Nikon 70-200 mm lens in the Aperture Priority setting. I chose a wide open aperture so the background would blur but made sure that the shutter speed was above 1/250 second so that the action of the wind blowing the skirt and hair would be frozen. I sorted these photos in Adobe Lightroom at first but am so new to this program. So I switched over to Adobe Bridge just because I am a bit more familiar with it, yet still in the learning phase. I edited my photo in Adobe Photoshop CS and have also been learning to play around with some photo actions using Greater than Gatsby.
This lake house made for a perfect location to shoot this session. The sunroom had wooden floors and white walls with plenty of natural light spilling in. The large white framed windows made for a perfect high-key look with Charlie Grace's white shirt on the white background. The shaded wrap-around porch worked great for taking the photo in the open shade so the subjects were not squinting from the bright sunshine. The lake and the trees in the background were also a nice accent. I chose to set my white balance on Auto because I knew I would be moving in and out of different lighting situations with different white balances. I had to tweak them a little bit in PhotoShop to remove some of the green cast but overall I was pleased with the Auto white balance which allowed me to focus more on my subject and their poses.
On my drive to work each day, I would always admired this old water well that stood in a grassy field. Always saying to myself, "One day I'm going to photograph that."
So, One spring, when the wildflowers were in full bloom, I finally took the time to capture its beauty. My great grandmother had a water well just like this in our back yard. When I was a child, I would pump the water up from the cistern just to see how many tree frogs would come out in my pail.
To this day, If I see a water well or just an old pump handle, memories take me back to that old house in our back yard with the old water well, wildflowers and tree frogs.
